The City of Clearwater has updated and adopted changes to its Floodplain Management Plan, which is available at www.myclearwater.com/flooding. The plan, which helps to identify areas in the city that are prone to flooding, enables residents to obtain discounts on flood insurance. The city re-examines this plan every five years and updates the plan to reflect progress. It serves as a five-year outlook of what residents can expect when it comes to stormwater, flooding, and your home. Some of the plans changes and progress from the last update in 2004 include the following: The citys Comprehensive Plan amendments have identified the Coastal Storm Area. The amendments prohibit new construction of hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities in this area. In addition, new mobile home parks are not permitted in the Coastal Storm Area. The city once again continues to participate in the FEMA Project Impact program to help reduce the impacts of natural disasters. The City completed the Alligator Lake project is March 2009. Project objectives were to provide creation and restoration of roughly 3.09 acres of wetlands to provide water quality benefits through stormwater management and wetland improvements. Following is a list of stormwater projects that have been completed in the past five years.
